The New Global Innovation Revolution

The new global innovation revolution is the ability for entrepreneurs anywhere to launch a successful software application quickly and with minimal up front investment. It will spawn a level of innovation across the entire planet that has never been seen before.

People in other countries are catching on and emulating the strength of America - a culture, entrepreneurial spirit and capitalistic system that encourages the risk of failure in return for financial reward. It's not a fit for every American, nor for every situation you may be in, but it is a creative, exciting and emotionally satisfying way to live when possible.

Will you able to compete as an entrepreneur on this global stage?

That's the question we must ask ourselves. This way of thinking and feeling is not something endemic to residents of North America exclusively. Americans have no corner on entrepreneurialism. After all we are a nation of immigrants and that entrepreneurial spirit came over on the same boat.

There are three major reasons for the new Global Innovation Revolution:
(1) Low-cost global software development resources
(2) More productive programmers, platforms and tools
(3) Low-cost sales & distribution of software on the Internet

Of course, not every business needs to go global. But we are talking about software here, and most software is run or at least available on the Internet, and therefore by definition is available globally. Will you build on your strengths and be part of this global revolution?

The Internet is enabling entrepreneurs everywhere to access markets that were not available to them in the past. And the number one market they want to access (so far) is the United States.

One subset of global entrepreneurs includes the many that have built their business to deliver custom software development to clients in the U.S. They are offering reduced costs through labor cost arbitrage, to be sure, but you should also get the typical benefits of outsourcing - better results from a better process with a company that specializes in software development.

Don't get dollar signs in your eyes by focusing on the labor rate of individual programmers. Most global programmers lack the skills you expect them to have and you have to choose your vendor and engagement type carefully.

But it goes both ways. Will you create software that will be used globally and not just in your own country?

Being a software entrepreneur is getting easier, no matter where on the planet you happen to live. From an American perspective, there are three major reasons for the new global innovation revolution:

  1. Low-cost global software development resources
  2. More productive programmers, platforms and tools
  3. Low-cost sales & distribution of software on the Internet

If the 20th century was the American century then I predict the 21st will be the Global century not dominated by any one nation. Instead, the Internet will enable individual entrepreneurs to have a global impact and collectively will be the leaders in the much larger global marketplace.

Are you ready?

Looking Forward and Looking Back

Imagine it is June 2011. Then ask yourself, "What would have to happen in the past 3 years for you to feel completely satisfied with your life?"

I recently attended my college reunion. It was a time of looking back over the past. Most goal setting exercises also recommend you look back, but from the perspective of several years in the future.

For example, imagine you are three years in the future and looking back at your life with a great deal of satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment. Then ask yourself, "What are the things that happened to make you feel that way?" These are then the goals you should aim to accomplish - new home, new relationship, new business, whatever.

How about you? Have you set good goals for yourself and your software business? Will you look back in 2011 and say you accomplished all you set out to do? Will you have used all the global resources available to you? Will you be operating in the new global marketplace and be part of the new innovation revolution?

DollarsAre You the Next Internet Millionaire?

If you have an idea for a software application but are not sure how to get started, then send me an email. I am in the process of developing a webinar series that shows in detail exactly how to describe your software so you can get it developed reliably and at a low-cost.

Not a technical genius? You don't have to be. The webinar series is designed for non-technical entrepreneurs. But here's the thing. I want to make sure these webinars cover the most important problems and issues you are facing.

Reply to this eZine email or use the Accelerance contact form to let me know the biggest issue that is keeping you from bringing your software idea to life.

In return, I'll send you a brand new 20-page report that describes the key trends mentioned in this issue of Runtime and shows you how to turn your software ideas into income without learning to program.

The Runtime Bottom Line

Three major trends are leading to a new global revolution of innovation. No single country will be in the lead - this is a revolution of individual entrepreneurs. You can take advantage of new programming platforms and low-cost global software development to tap a growing global marketplace.
